The Vice Principle

High school memories. I promised myself not to go there. But somehow, I find myself meeting people from my past that help me drag that chain of thought. Last night I met my old high school principle. Lets call him AbuRadi. You know these people that helped you grow up and develop some kind of stable personality. Well, AbuRadi is NOT one of them. I had to shake hands and pretend that I liked and respected the guy. But in reality we all know that its not acceptable for a gentleman to pull his glove and slap another older man with it. I'm not a duke from the 18th century. Plus, I didn't have a brick to slip in my glove.

I have a lot of issues with my schooling days. suffice to say, they are not my best memories. And I try my best to forget them. You see, I grew up in a time when its acceptable to beat up a student and humiliate him then ask him to apologize afterwards. There was this incident, when after the usual humiliation, and apology on my side; AboRadi told me that I have to say it and mean it.

The same man, would let his son, Radi, get out of school any time he wants. Homework is not an issue to Radi. And, good grades are taken for granted. Yes, I was a victim of a corrupted school management. And that goes for the rest of the school staff.

I try my best to avoid people when I'm in my home town to avoid painful memories. Yet, there are some occasions that i meet these people. But as always I learned my lesson this time. Next time I go shopping in my home town, I will carry a brick.

By the way, I was one of their top students. You Should listen to what the rest of the guys have to say.

OY, I feel better.

Having an Opinion

I'm warming up my car. Ready to go back home. just had something in mind. When you talk about something or someone, you will find people jumping to opinions. Sometimes taking sides.

Last night I was talking to a dear someone. He said "this guy -refearing to a certain political figure- is not really a good person". I gave him this advice.

Here's the thing, next time you are about to air an opinion, think of a couple of things. First, is that person affecting your life and will your opinion of him affect his. If it doesn't, you don't need to have an opinion about him so that you don't develop an emotion to a cause which is not yours.

Save yourself time and effort by keeping yourself opinion-free about things that doesn't affect your life in a direct way. You will live a happy life. Trust me. I'm not that happy.

STC logo

I promised my friend who works in STC (Saudi Telecom Company) to write this piece earlier. but for those who know me, the reason is obvious. And for those who don't , why would you care?

A couple of months ago, for some unknown reason, STC decided to change their logo. Now, lets make this clear: I am not a fan of this company nor an enemy. I don't like their old logo and new one just demonstrate how logo choice should not be but in the hands of the gay and the stupid (not that I have anything against these people too)

Now when it comes to logos its not only a matter of taste. Logos serve alot of purposes. decoration is the least of which. you could spot a McDonalds sign from 5Km away and you can spot something as small as a Nike logo. You can recognize your favorite logo even if the shelf is full with other products. If a company does good advertisement they wouldn't have to say much. just show something good and their logo in the background.

lets take a look at the new STC logo:

now I know what you're thinking right now. its not a butterfly , I asked. I think they were going for something that symbolizes freedom and that there are no restrictions ... bla bla bla.

Heres my take on the logo:

1. you cant copyright this logo. I could use a very slight change in the color gradient or change the smear a bit and I have my own logo. and people would mix them up.

2. It lacks consistency. you wouldn't know where it starts and where it ends its just a smear.
3. It doesn't come in monochrome. a good logo could be painted in one color as well as full color. I wouldn't really dwell on how hand that could be.
4. The tag line: its the moto of the company and it usually explain the logo. First month they went with be free. then they went with we are together. its only a matter of time till they go with "together we suck!".

There are other things I should point out but I wont. too lazy.
Best way to salvage this is first man up , then fire the designer

No really to fix this i suggest they ad a bit of consistency: by chancing the gradient colors into separated color patches . lower the color gradient to 3 main colors (they can add whatever they want later)

Stolen Picture

Posted Last Year:

Stolen Picture, originally uploaded by thelunatech.

Ok, I never believed in this copyright bullshit to begin with. Whatever I can get my hands on, I usually take and gesture a middle finger to the copy right sign. so I have nothing to complain about.

However, when a big organization or publisher , who occasionally preach copyright; it just makes my day a little more constipated. Hypocrisy , that's what they call it in the old days.

Last Thursday I ran a thread in a local forum about the temperature drop and attach some photos from that morning . The thing is I get a big newspaper stealing the photo , cropping out my stamp and failing to mention anything about the source of that picture.

Hers the picture I took:

DSC_4912

and here's the picture from the paper:

1901_nat_p9_n640

And this is the newspaper link:

http://www.alwatan.com.sa/news/newsdetail.asp?issueno=2668&id=38225

Now , its not the first time news papers take pictures from me , but other news papers at least refer to me or keep the stamp. Just about a month ago some a news paper did take my horse race photos and they did refer to me.

Some suggest that I complain to the newspaper or at least file an objection letter. But its not me . I tell you why. I might be many things (a perverted, self-centered, reckless wild , holy fiend), but I'm never a hypocrite. I just don't like people saying what they don't do and hope others are not looking when they're not doing it. (take your time deciphering the last sentence. and BTW , please do refer to me when you take it)..

Anyway, I got to go. I'm taking my car to the dealer for the 5000 checkup.

take care

We Have to Blame Someone

You probably didn't hear about this, but the middle east, India , Malaysia and other countries were partially disconnected from the Internet for a whole week. yes people , someone broke the Internet!!

Having so much time on their hands , people came up with a whole bunch of theories. But before we go into that I would like to raise question. isn't the Internet invented to be "ON" when everything is "OFF" in case of a large scale war. I think I know now why they let it go public. it seems it's not good enough for a steady amount of porn.

Anyways , back to the breakage theories. one of the most ridiculous theories I've ever heard in my whole life is that the US wanted to isolate the Iranians. so they first start with isolating their porn source. I'm not even gonna discuss this. My only concern is how the hell did this idea got on some news websites. Tells you how much people are disparate for attention. Anyways for those who believe in this GREEAAAAAT conspiracy; Iran is back online and the big baaaaaad US loses in another evil plan. oy

Another theory that I think really makes sense is the “Egyptian Anchor Theory”. It goes like this. Weather goes bad, ship drops anchor and anchor cuts cables. Now I don't want to be stereotypical about anyone (who am I kidding, I don't care enough to think about it). I've know Egyptians for bad drivers. Seems to me, that goes for Egyptian sailors as well. I don't need to prove this fact. Just Google this "Egyptian ship accident" and you'd know what I mean.

I was having my doubts about this theory until they denied it. It means its true. (you can Google that too). At least this time no one died. I wont be so sure of this theory Either. “The Egyptians run a tight ship” , so to speak.

Some say its the Israelis doing something before the Ghasa massacres but the timing isn't right. so I would doubt that. Never the less, they are eligible cable cutters, these Israelis. “oy vay, Cable shmable , just cut da tam tin. We cant have tiss on youtube”

However, I am the only one who knows who really did this. HouseWives. yup, Ignored , cheated on , and sexually unsatisfied all because of the damn Internet. The pregnancy rates shot from %91 up to %356 in the middle east. That proves my theory. My question is, how did the house wives convince the Egyptian navy to do it?

A Licensee to Speak

Writing from Riyadh:

I love movies and sitcoms. If were given the chance, I would make my life a sitcom. I would wake up stretch in bed then my theme song starts while I go to my miserable crappy job. But you know why I would really like that. It's because people say the right things, or at least something related to the subject.

However I'm ok with people giving stupid answerer. After all most of them are lost causes. And God put them there for a reason. Apparently, they form the greater mass of the consuming population. What really gets to me, is the way people voice opinions they never been asked for. Don't they know they (along with simple opinions) don't matter? They might get televised and aired, but on the long run of human history , they are just wasting time and electricity.

Have you ever had a conversation with people lately? If you are not me, you're probably going to go with "yes". Notice how people jump out of context so often. Don't you just want to pull the plug on this show? I can see it now " 'PEOPLE ON EARTH' canceled due to low ratings". I'm pretty sure if it wasn't for wars and assassinations people would lose interest in history.

My proposal is this. We've all heard of a license to kill. no matter how tempting the idea may sounds, its really hypothetical. you can't kill them all . So, the idea would be like this:People get tested. Depending on their IQ and knowledge, they are given a certain grade and permission to speak on a certain level. You can substitute for stupidity with reading a very great deal of books. Parents that are not fit to speak in front of their children are not given permission. Thus, no more parents that educate their children in plain stupid. And the next time you see a person talking in public , you would know he's making some sense without wasting three seconds. The military have a good thing going on "permission to speak, sir." "Permission granted, solider". It even sounds good.

If only I could run this show. The world would be a better place.

Its O.K.

On Teaching

This is a filler entry

A lot of people would ask me how's work going. I don’t know why people would not get the point when I say "I'm a teacher. What do you think?". I met a teacher in the UK 2 years ago. She said "being a teacher has so many rewards!" . It made me wonder what I was missing. Until she said "I think Saudi guys have a lot of charm to them". It's when I knew she was full of crock. By the way, Saudi guys are known for a lot of good things; "charms" isn’t one of them. Also teaching is a dead end job that would kill your self esteem, piss on your life style and will call you names after. You start as a teacher. 20 years pass and what do you know!!! you're are still a teacher (with a slightly uptight neurotic personality and traces of suicidal urges).

In all fairness there might be one "reward" to this awful profession. In some occasion you might meet a thankful student. Usually, that would be one or two times in a life time. And then again, you might meet a student like me, who would tell you how he really thinks about you. If you don’t look nice when you write on the board, don't expect a nice comment from me. And to tell the truth as much as I hated things about that English "Saudi-Charm" teacher, I really appreciated that other tender side of her (of her personality of course). What can I say?? I'm a sucker for tender parts (metaphorically speaking).

I'm sorry I tried liking this profession. But I don’t have that motherly feeling in me. I can't see someone else's kids and love them. Although I admit I do have a strong urge if beating the shit of some little kids. It would make me feel better about my childhood. You might ask why the hell did I sign up for this job in the first place. I tell you why. When I was growing up, teachers had many liberties. Amongst these is the liberty of beating us like dogs for no reason at all. I remember a teacher (God bless him, then strike him down with a bolt of lightning and put him on life support for the rest of his life! Amen). Anyways, I remember him beating the shit out of me for calling his son names. That is not fair. I call all the kids names. why is he any different ?

These days the law states that you can't retaliate to a student physical abuse until he pins you to the ground. I shit you not that is the law here. I'm not even gonna comment on this. You know I blame my dad for me turning out to be what I am now. When he asked me what I wanted to be he should've told me there is a job called a Mammogram machine operator. And they pay you for that. You see I like working with the tender side of the human personality.

That would be really O.K.
